It was founded in 1959〔(The Official Western Web-Site of the Mansudae Art Studio )〕 and employs around 4,000 people, including 700 artists. Most of its artists are graduates of Pyongyang University.〔Pier Luigi Cecioni and Eugenio Cecioni, ("The Mansudae Art Studio" ), from ''The Hermit Country'', published by Petra, Padua/Empoli, Italy, May 2007〕 The studio consists of 13 groups, the most important being the "Korean Painting" group. Other groups work with woodcuts, drawings, oil paintings, embroidery and jewel paintings, among other things.〔 Its foreign commercial division is known as the Mansudae Overseas Project Group of Companies.〔 All images of the Kims are produced by the Mansudae Art Studio.
